Buffalo chicken and blue cheese is my weakness. The moment I see anything involving the two on a restaurant menu it's all over - no other option stands a chance to be ordered. In fact, I was vegetarian for 7 years (long, long ago) and the thing that made me stop was how badly I was craving buffalo wings! So when I had my most recent craving for the delicious combo I decided I was perfectly capable of satisfying my desires at home instead of going out to eat.
Okay...so I know Thanksgiving is just a few days away. I should be posting something to be served on the big day, right? Well hear me out. For me, Thanksgiving is about tradition. I have the same menu every year and look forward to knowing exactly what to expect on the table (or in my case, on our spiral staircase that we use as a tiered serving table in my tiny Brooklyn apartment). I know tradition isn't for everyone, but when it comes to Thanksgiving it is for me!
So my favorite part is before and after. Before for the Thanksgiving themed potlucks, work parties, etc when you aren't necessarily making a huge feast. After for, well, the LEFTOVERS! Before and after give me way more wiggle room for creativity. I love it. I must admit - I can only take credit for the parsley dijonnaise dip in this post. My boyfriend, Anthony, is the mastermind behind the chicken nuggets! I love his chicken nuggets so much. Anytime I have a craving for them (which is often) I MUST have them for dinner that night. There is no other option.
Just last week I was talking to my friend Anais on a train ride home after a work event. She came up with a wonderful idea to tell the other an ingredient to make something with and we had one week to do it. I told her to make something with zucchini (can't wait to find out what it is!) and she told me to make a savory dish with mango.
Honestly, I had been feeling like I was at sort of at a standstill with post ideas. But this little exercise was just what I needed to get my creative juices flowing again! And let me tell you...I made a savory mango dish that I will certainly be making again. My boyfriend and I are headed down to Florida this weekend (Universal and Daytona 500, here we come!), so we need to make sure we use up everything we have in our fridge. This means lots of meals where we just throw things together. We have already done pasta, stirfry, salad...and frankly we wanted something new. I started to realize lots of what we had went together quite well - avocado, greek yogurt, black beans, ground meat, cheese, tortilla chips - so I set out to buy a lime and some cilantro to tie it all together!
